Karun Chandhok expressed delight at his return to Formula One, after being confirmed on Tuesday as reserve driver with Team Lotus for 2011.
“I'm very happy to be part of Team Lotus,” he said over telephone from Melbourne. “It gives me an opportunity to learn from two highly experienced drivers.”
Negotiations appeared to have fallen through a few days ago when Lotus named Brazil's Luiz Razia as the third driver but Chandhok said talks had been continuing.
“It took a little bit longer than we had hoped but (Team Principal) Tony Fernandes and I had been speaking all the time,” he said. “So I knew what the real story was. We cut it very fine, though.
